Expert says second desal plant may be required ‘in the long term’
A second desalination plant being built to service Victoria isn’t out of the question according to a leading expert.
It comes after a report handed to the government called for more work to be done to asses the feasibility of such a project.
Professor Stephen Gray, Director at the Institute for Sustainable Industries and Livable cities at Victoria University, told Tom Elliott it might be required later this century.
“It’s a long term plan,” he said on 3AW Drive.
“And really it’s one of the options on the table, so it doesn’t say we’ll only use desalinated water as the only solution.
“We’ll considering using less water … using storm water and recycled water, but also including desalinated water as an option.”
