Expert weighs in on why Penny Wong is pushing for two-state solution in Israel-Hamas war

Tom Elliott

Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong is pushing for a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.

International relations expert at Deakin University, Professor Greg Barton, says both Hamas, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have turned down a two-state solution.

“They have different reasons for not wanting a two-state solution, they’re both fundamentally committed to that,” he told Tom Elliott.

He also weighed on what is needed once the Israel-Hamas war eventually ends.

“There has to be a day after, and the day after needs the help of Israel’s Arab neighbours. It needs … some sort of Palestinian administration … not Hamas,” he said.
