Experts call to recast standardised tests, NAPLAN and ATAR on the line
The Australian Education Union has called to recast both the NAPLAN testing system, and the ATAR ranking nationwide.
Deputy president of the Union, Justin Mullaly, says NAPLAN is not fit for purpose.
“Teachers and principals have said for at least 10 years … that it does not meet their needs as educators,” he told Tom Elliott.

Mullaly says a “point-in-time test”, like NAPLAN, shifts focus away from the regular assessments conducted by teachers to nationwide standardised tests.
