A 10-year-old girl has told of how she hid in a cupboard, desperately calling Triple Zero, while a burglar ransacked her Springvale home.

As reported in the Herald Sun, Kate Luong was home alone when the man threw a brick through a window to gain access.

Neil Mitchell shared the audio of the incredible Triple Zero call on 3AW Mornings.

Kate: They’re in the house, they broke the glass door.

Triple Zero operator: The police have been notified, are you home alone?

Kate: Yep, please come quick.

Kate manages to describe the man and where she’s hiding in the house.

“Isn’t that extraordinary,” Neil said.

“She really deserves some sort of recognition.”

Police arrived and arrested a 46 year old man, armed with a knife and a screwdriver, at the scene.

ESTA call taker Scott Pattinson was on the other end of the line, he told Neil when talking to a child he changes the way he speaks.

“You have to speak a bit softer, try to put yourself in their shoes and realise how scary it would be for them,” Scott said.

“Comfort them and reassure her that help has been notified.”
