Fair Work Commission cuts Sunday penalty rates

Sunday penalty rates have been cut.

The Fair Work Commission handed down its findings on Thursday, saying rates would be reduced in hospitality, fast-food and retail industries.

It’s spent two years weighing up whether or not to bringing the rates in line with Saturday pay.

That won’t be the case, however, the rates have been reduced.

The move is likely to anger unions, with Ged Kearney from the ACTU previously saying it was crucial the decision favoured employees.

‘Right now, we know that Australian workers are in dire need of a pay rise, not pay cut,’ she said on Thursday morning.

‘If the Fair Work Commission decides to cut penalty rates, they are effectively saying millions of Australians can do with less money.’
