Fairfax to slash up to 115 jobs, journalists at The Age and SMH to strike for a week
Staff at The Age and Sydney Morning Herald newspapers have gone on strike for a week following news Fairfax will be slashing their newsrooms by up to 25 per cent.
Journalists walked off the job on Wednesday afternoon following stop-work meetings.
Fairfax has announced another restructure, which will see up to 115 staff members lose their jobs.
The decision is likely to heavily impact on Fairfax’s coverage of next week’s federal budget.
‘It certainly wasn’t a decision taken lightly,’ award-winning investigative journalist Richard Baker told 3AW.
