‘Falling behind’: Expert calls for greater funding to dental research

The President of the Australian Dental Association says the lack of funding into dental research is seeing Australia fall behind other developed countries.

Dr Stephen Liew said he’s had to remove decay in patients as young as two.

“It’s absolutely heartbreaking,” he said on 3AW Breakfast.

“We can reduce this burden by finding new innovative intervention methods, but this obviously needs resources.

“So it’s just disappointing despite all of these findings, Australian dental research continues to receive inadequate funding.”
