Father of Mason Cox speaks to Neil Mitchell
The elated father of Collingwood’s rising star Mason Cox has told Neil Mitchell he is on top of the world following his son’s cracking debut at the MCG yesterday.
The 211cm Texan kicked the opening goal of Collingwood’s ANZAC Day clash with Essendon within the first eighty seconds of the match. It was his first ever game with the AFL.
Never heard of AFL less than 2 years ago and now an opportunity to play on ANZAC Day in front of 80,000 people. #crazylife #chaseyourdreams

His father, Phil Cox, told Neil Mitchell he had an absolute ball watching the match and felt as a spectator he had a good handle on how the game is played despite being from the US.
‘The first thing my wife bought me was Australian Rules Football for Dummies. I read that book cover to cover,’ Mr Cox said. ‘We’ve watched games on television…we’re pretty comfortable with it now!’
‘He’s doing real well, we’re so proud of him.’
