Concerns are growing education standards in Australia are dropping after it emerged a growing number of prospective teachers were struggling to complete literacy and numeracy tests.

Teaching students will now have unlimited attempts to complete the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE), prompting fears that standards to become a teacher have lowered.

“The question is what skills (do teachers have) when they get into the classroom,” Grattan Institute Education Program Director told Tom Elliott.
