Federal government backflips on controversial decision impacting a VC recipient’s family
The federal government has backflipped on the decision to strip the allowance for the family of Cameron Baird, a Victoria Cross recipient who lost his life in Afghanistan.
It was described as a “terrible example of penny pinching” by Tom Elliott when the news came to light last week, but Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Matt Keogh has reversed the decision.
