Man arrested after fatal hit-run that shut the South Gippsland Highway

One person is dead and another has been arrested after fleeing a fiery head-on crash on the South Gippsland Highway.

3AW Drive was alerted to the tragic news on Thursday.

Victoria Police has confirmed one person died in the collision.

A 25-year-old Hampton Park man has been arrested after he fled the scene.

Ambulance Victoria confirmed it was treating one patient.

The highway has been shut in both directions between Korumburra and Loch and is expected to remain closed for several hours.
