Australia’s richest people have been revealed with the release of the Financial Review’s annual Rich List.

Cardboard king and executive chairman of Visy Anthony Pratt tops the list with a record $12.9 billion dollars in personal wealth.

The Editor of the AFR Rich List, John Stensholt, joined Neil Mitchell to discuss.

“Paul Little said he’d buy a vintage European sports car and park it in the basement and forget it – they’ve gone up five times in value – that would be his investment with his last $100,000,” he said.

The list includes property developer Harry Triguboff, mining magnate Gina Rinehart and businessman Andrew Forrest.

“The commonality is fierce competitiveness – it’s a funny thing to say but they do use it as a bit of a scoreboard for their success,” Stensholt said.

“You wouldn’t believe the sorts of stuff we get told by them in the background to help with our evaluations. It’s a measure of their success.”

He also revealed the “surreal” experience when Donald Trump bought him dinner.
