The fines system in Victoria is being overhauled, with Civic Compliance to be scrapped and replaced with a new body called Fines Victoria.

From January 1st, Fines Victoria will sit within the Department of Justice and Regulation to manage the administration and enforcement of infringement and court fines across the state.

Among the changes will be an option to pay off fines in installments.

The Department of Criminal Law Policy and Operations’ Ryan Phillips told Tony Jones there will also be an option for disadvantaged people to work off their fines.

“In every case it’ll be detailed to the individual’s circumstances, we’ll be able to work out what meets their requirements,” Ryan said.

“The most important thing to note is that it makes a single accessible point for people to deal with their fines.”
