Fireworks specialist ‘inundated’ with illegal requests

A fireworks specialists says he’s been inundated with requests for pyrotechnics from people without permits.

Jack Poletko, manager of fireworks company Airwize Pyrotechnic Displays, told 3AW Mornings there’s significant risk in setting off your own fireworks.

“They’re not experienced,” he said.

“We’ve been in the industry 24 years, I’ve even had an accident … about 15 years ago when I had five stitched in my face from a firework going astray.

“And I’m trained, I’d been doing it for 12 years before that happened.

“It’s not like the old days when you used to go to the milk bar and buy a packet of skyrockets from the milk bar owner.”
