FIRST ON 3AW: Girl, 12, attacked in terrifying Footscray home invasion

A young girl has been attacked in her own home during a terrifying house invasion in Melbourne’s west.
Neil Mitchell revealed details of the attack this morning, the same same day as a reports a new project targeting troubled youths had put a stop to home invasions.
The girl, 12, found a man inside her Footscray home about 9pm yesterday.
He assaulted her before fleeing on a scooter, which he stole from the property.
The girl did not sustain any injuries.
Police are still hunting for the attacker, who was described as being of African appearance.

Meanwhile, 3AW Mornings was later alerted to another home invasion overnight, this time in Gippsland.
Police have been told a man broke into a home on Church Street in Morwell soon after 5am and became involved in an altercation with a man, who was assaulted.
The offender then set fire to the home and fled.
The victim, 33, sustained facial injuries and refused medical treatment.
Investigators believe the parties are known to each other.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
