FIRST ON 3AW: New government swimming pool regulations revealed

Tom Elliott

The state government has revealed on 3AW all private pools and spas in Victoria will have to be completely fenced before the end of the year.

A tightening of regulations follows a coroner’s report into the death of a child in a rental property in Melton South, with the coroner finding the pool at the property was insecure.

This crackdown could leave new and existing pool owners with a $3000 bill.

Planning Minister Richard Wynne has told Neil Mitchell there’ll be a consultation period before the new regulations come into force.

‘The consultation will be from the 18th of this month (May) on new regulations that will be required for not only new pools but all old pools as well,’ Minister Wynne said on 3AW Mornings.

‘There will be a cost involved in this.’
