A man who ended up in Western Port in the early hours of Sunday morning after pulling a shark onto his kayak has described his very eventful fishing trip to Neil Mitchell.

Brett Palmer was fishing in his kayak off Balnarring when he managed to hook a 2.3 metre shark weighing 40 kilograms.

After hauling the catch on board, he began his voyage back to shore.

That’s when his kayak flipped, tipping him into the water.

“I got back on real quick. I grew wings,” Mr Palmer said with a laugh.

“I’m not the biggest fan of sharks.”
