Five men are in custody over a bizarre, alleged plot to travel on a small boat to join ISIL.

The men, all aged under 30, are believed to have left Melbourne towing a tinnie across three states

It’s alleged the five men were going to launch the tinnie in far north Queensland, travel to Indonesia and then fly to Syria.

The AFP reportedly decided to swoop yesterday afternoon, arresting the men in Cairns.

In a statement to the Herald Sun, the AFP confirmed the men are in custody and no charges have been laid.

There is no current threat to the community.
