Five people rescued by police airwing overnight
Five people have been rescued by the police airwing during two delicate operations overnight.
A 25-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman were winched to safety after they became stranded on a 150-metre high ledge in the Werribee Gorge State Park just after 10.30pm.
The duo had wandered from the main track onto a trail with no handrails and sheer drops, and were unable to find their way down in dark and rough terrain.
Officers were unable to reach the pair on foot, the airwing winching them to safety.
Three children were rescued by the water police and the airwing when they became trapped on a riverbank in Glenmaggie, in the state’s east, after launching an inflatable donut into the Macalister river, which got caught on a rock.
They were aged 10, 13 and 15.
Senior Sergeant Colin Ramsay, Chief Tactical Flight Officer from Victoria Police’s airwing, told 3AW both groups could count their blessings.
“This is a time when people start getting out into those areas where there is an element of danger – rivers, cliffs, walks – make sure you understand your limitations,” he said.
