Flemington car plunge; three young women in hospital
Three people are in hospital – one fighting for life – after a car plunged more than 10 metres into an excavation pit at Flemington this morning.
MFB Commander Rick Gili told Neil Mitchell it was lucky two of the passengers could get out unassisted.
‘I was amazed how anybody could survive that fall. It was incredible,’ Mr Gili said.

The crash happened at the intersection of Epsom Road and Ascot Vale Road about 2.25am.
The Honda Civic crashed through temporary fencing at a construction site, careered down the pit and landed on its roof in an excavation pit.

While two of the women were able to exit the car, emergency crews were required to pulled the third women free. All three are aged in their 20s.
The front seat passenger is in hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver and backseat passenger are also in hospital but with less serious injuries.
