Flood-stricken Victorians call out ‘disgraceful’ flood relief problem
Flood-stricken Victorians have called out a “disgraceful” flood relief problem after finding themselves ineligible for government relief payments.
Yea man Roland says he’s “lost everything” but he’s not entitled for a grant because he lives in the Murrindindi Shire, which isn’t one of the local government areas eligible for relief.
“We got 10 minutes notice to get out,” he told Neil Mitchell. “For us to not get it when we’ve lost everything, I think, is a disgrace.”

Darraweit Guim resident, Phil, says 10 or 12 families in his town are in the same situation.
“Unfortunately we are in the Macedon Shire, therefore we don’t qualify,” he said.
“It needs to be righted.”

Federal Government Services Minister Bill Shorten says the state government is responsible for telling the federal government which areas should be added to the grant list, and the process changes rapidly.
“It will move. I’ll certainly relay to the state brothers and sisters — the government there — the shires that you mentioned,” he told Neil Mitchell.
