MCG food vouchers are being offered to commuters on the Mernda and Hurstbridge lines as compensation, after it was announced the lines will be closed until Monday.

The line has remained shut since a train carriage derailed near Clifton Hill station on Sunday night.

Shadow Public Transport Minister Matthew Guy says travel should be “free until it’s fixed”.

Press PLAY to hear what Mr Guy thinks of the compensation scheme

“At the end of the day it’s the government’s job to provide a reasonable service to the public,” Mr Guy told 3AW Drive.
