Footpath lights installed in Melbourne to warn pedestrians glued to their phones
In a sign that we are all too engrossed in our mobile phones, lights are set to be installed on Melbourne footpaths, warning people they’re approaching a red light.
The lights are there to remind pedestrians to look up to avoid being hit by a car.

In an Ideas Factory last year the Lord Mayor labelled the move ridiculous, but Roads Minister Luke Donnellan has told 3AW’s Mitchell the Government is going ahead with the $120,000, 12 month trial.
‘$120,000 is a drop in the ocean compared the damage when someone loses their lives, or their income, or their livelihood, the damage it does to the community,’ Donnellan told 3AW Mornings.
