Colin Sylvia has been killed in a car crash.

The former Melbourne and Fremantle midfielder was involved in a two-car crash in the state’s north west on Sunday afternoon.

The collision happened at the corner of Nineteenth Street and Benetook Avenue at Irymple, near Mildura.

The driver of a second vehicle was also injured and taken to hospital but was able to walk away from the crash.

Melbourne great David Schwarz told Macquarie Sports Radio it was awful news.

“It’s far too young,” he said.

“He was always about his mates and having a good time.”

He said Sylvia had a number of well-publicised off-field issues and never reached his true football potential.

“He probably fell through a few cracks at Melbourne and then Fremantle,” he said.

“I think the transition out of footy into life was really difficult for Colin.”
