Former AFL player Nick Stevens will spend three months behind bars, for offences against his former girlfriend.

The 36-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts intentionally causing injury to his former partner, in two incidents three years ago.

In one case telling her he would beat her within an inch of her life.

In her victim impact statement, the woman said she still bears a scar on her face, which is a reminder every day of the incidents in February and April 2013.

Stevens had appealed an original eight month term over the abuse, but abandoned the effort, agreeing to plead guilty to the two charges as part of a deal that saw 10 others dropped.

In sentencing, Judge Damian Murphy said Stevens showed little remorse and no victim empathy, after the attacks.

He said while Stevens is on the road to rehabilitation jail term is still required –handing down a six month sentence, with three months suspended.
