Former army chief questions the ‘Australian identity’ amid ADF recruitment crisis

Former Australian Army chief Peter Leahy has stated there is a “delusion of the Australian identity” as the Australian Defence Force struggles to attract recruits.
Lieutenant-General Leahy told Tom Elliott on 3AW Mornings the sense of identity in Australia now seems to be around “victimhood”, and wants more positive discussion about the great things about our country.
“I think he’s on to something,” the 3AW Mornings host said.

“I think that we just need to get back to some of the basics,” Leahy said.
“I think we’ve just got to be proud about who we are, what we’ve achieved, and what we can do as a force for good in the country and also in the world.”
