Former Essendon player Hal Hunter has accused the club of hypocrisy after it won a court case forcing him to pay the club’s legal costs.

Hunter, who was on the Bombers’ list in 2012 when the infamous supplements program took place, had been in court trying to get the club to supply medical documentation of what he had taken.

Essendon said it had supplied everything it could, before chasing Hunter for court costs.

The Bombers won that case on Wednesday.

But Hunter hit back outside court, saying Essendon’s decision to chase him for costs showed it had little regard for the affected players, regardless of what it said.

‘I think it sends a pretty clear message of how the club treats their player welfare,’ Hunter, now 22, told 3AW outside court.

‘They can portray one thing in the media, but to then pursue me for costs on an issue like this really gets to the heart of the issue.’

Hunter’s mother has since described the behaviour of the Bombers as ‘grubby and petty.’
