Former deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer unharmed after night in the bush

Tom Elliott

Tim Fischer has escaped unharmed after a night lost in the bush.

The former deputy Prime Minister was hiking around Mt Jack, 50km south of Albury-Wodonga, when some delays meant he ran out of daylight.

Mr Fischer told Neil Mitchell he’s not embarrassed by the incident, rather he made the decision to stay put after dark for his safety.

Mr Fischer had a mobile phone with him to alert his family that he was okay.

He said he lost two kilograms during the ordeal.
