Former County Court Judge says there’s no pleasure in sentencing someone to jail.

Gordon Lewis tells Neil Mitchell it takes a lot of courage to send someone to prison.

‘The general public has had a gutful of serious crimes being committed by people who are out on bail,’ Lewis said on 3AW Mornings.

He tells Neil, ‘At some stage we have to acknowledge that the legal system belongs to the public.

‘At some stage the sentence will have to reflect on what the public wants.’

Gordon certainly has a lifetime worth of experience, from being a County Court Judge to the Road Safety Camera Commissioner to having a twelve year stint as ABC radio film reviewer.

His new book ‘Bitten By An Elephant’ is out now.
