Former Port Adelaide star David Rodan training to be a goal umpire
Former Port Adelaide star David Rodan is pursuing a career as a goal umpire.
AFL umpires boss Hayden Kennedy confirmed the news on 3AW.
‘I’ve seen David down here on a couple of occasions working with our goal umpires coach,’ Kennedy told Sports Today.
‘He moves well between the sticks.’
Leigh Fisher and Jordan Bannister are two other former players to take up the whistle at the highest level post-playing career, but Rodan is looking at waving the flags.
‘He’s going to bring a lot of character to goal-umpiring,’ Kennedy said.
The umpires boss also discussed the future of the bounce, as well as potential candidates for this year’s grand final.
