Former Port Phillip mayor’s solution to fix homeless problem

The City of Port Phillip is considering fining rough sleepers as they look to clean up crime in the area.
But according to the former mayor, there’s a deeper problem which needs to be fixed.
Marcus Pearl says the “real” solution to help curb the crime crisis in the area is to increase police resourcing.

“The real issue is the lack of police resources and the strain on social services who are under so much pressure because of the cost of living crisis,” Mr Pearl told Tom Elliott.
“Changes to local laws are important, they’re not the core solution.”
