Former TAC boss’ push for ‘stronger vehicle standards’ to bite into Victoria’s growing road toll
Former Transport Accident Commission CEO Joe Calafiore wants “stronger vehicle standards” in order to reduce Victoria’s road toll.
Mr Calafiore only resigned from his position last week and is speaking out freely for the first time, claiming the luxury car tax should be replaced with a tax on unsafe cars.
“I’ve always thought it was wrong that we allow one star and two star cars on the road,” Mr Calafiore told Neil Mitchell.

The current road toll for the state sits at 136, compared to 97 at the same time last year.
“I think there’s a big role for the Victorian government in road safety, everyone has a role to play in road safety,” Mr Calafiore told Neil Mitchell.
