A former member of the Wiggles is calling on Australians to team up with their neighbours to purchase automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for their area.

The Heart of the Nation initiative aims to get an AED within 200 metres of all homes.

Greg Page, who suffered a heart attack while performing in a Wiggles reunion show, is leading the initiative.

“$2990 is the starting price, so across 40 homes in a suburb that works out to be $75 per home, probably the most affordable way to get access to an AED,” he told Ross and Russel.

“They get a tracking device on the defib so they can track where it is, they get access to an app that will connect them to each other so they can call for help from their neighbours so they can stay and do CPR on a loved one, they get training online.

“The AED house has their AED outside in a cabinet stored that anyone can access any time of the day or night.”

Treatment with an AED within the first three to five minutes after suffering cardiac arrest increases survival rates by up to five times.
