The MCG is the first to admit it’s ‘sad’ a four-year-old girl was scanned by security while trying to enter the MCG.

But MCC boss Stephen Gough says it’s necessary in today’s world.

Four-year-old Holly was ‘wanded’ by security before Saturday’s clash between Melbourne and Essendon.

Her mum, Bec, told Neil Mitchell she was initially shocked at what was happening.

‘I accept it, but where do you draw the line,’ she said.

‘It just feels wrong.

‘This is just going to be her world, unfortunately.’

Stephen Gough said the ground’s policy was ‘random and continuous.’

‘(But) it is sad,’ he said.

‘Ten years ago the idea of something like this is unheard of.’
