Francesca Cumani’s early form ahead of the Melbourne Cup

Revered racing expert Francesca Cumani has given her early view on how this year’s Melbourne Cup field is stacking up.

With the Cup Carnival beginning with Derby Day on Saturday, attention is quickly turning to next Tuesday’s marquee Group 1 at Flemington.

Cumani, who is back in Australia working for Channel 9, told 3AW news reporter Kiara Parker that the race could come down to how much rain falls ahead of the race.

“We’re going to have to keep a close eye on the ground conditions,” she said.
