A 46-year-old Frankston man who allegedly stole a car in Keysborough with a baby still inside has failed to appear in court.

Dean Robertson claimed he was suffering COVID-19 symptoms, but refused to see a nurse or comply with custody officers.

He’s facing theft and kidnapping charges after allegedly stealing a Toyota RAV-4 with an 11-month boy still in the car.

Police say Mr Robertson was gone for more than three hours, sparking a full scale manhunt before he was found around 6pm on Tuesday night.

The baby was also found safe in Cranbourne and reunited with his mother.
