Friends star Jennifer Aniston says a “whole generation of people” now find episodes of the popular sitcom offensive, but the show “never intended” to offend.

The comedy series has been criticised for fatphobia, homophobia and sexism.

Associate professor at the school of social and political sciences at the University of Melbourne, Dr Lauren Rosewarne, says standards have changed.

“Something doesn’t remain funny forever,” she told Neil Mitchell.

“That doesn’t mean it needs to be banned but it does mean people look at it with a different level of criticism.”
