Fruiterer’s price warning to Australians

Australians are being warned grocery price hikes will continue to eat into household budgets for the rest of the year.

Weather disasters, the war in Ukraine, fuel costs and labour shortages are inflicting havoc on the food system.

Frank Napoli from Napoli’s Fruit & Vegetable Market in Williamstown says it’s unprecedented.

“It doesn’t look really good,” he told Ross and Russel.

Mr Napoli has been involved in the fruit and vegetable business his whole life, with his father starting the family business in 1968.

But he says he’s never seen prices this high.

“Floods is the biggest cause of things  — in NSW and Queensland,” he said.

“Our supply in winter normally stops and it all comes form Queensland and NSW.”
