‘Fundamentally wrong’: Emergency department prioritising Indigenous patients over others

It has been revealed a hospital in Melbourne’s northern suburbs has been prioritising the health needs of Indigenous patients over non-Indigenous patients.

As reported by the Herald Sun, staff have been instructed to see all First Nations patients within 30 minutes of their arrival at the facility’s emergency department.

Shadow Health Minister Georgie Crozier told Tom Elliott on 3AW Mornings, “triaging is really vital for emergency response for patients and patient safety, and we need to base that on medical need, not on the colour of someone’s skin or their race.”
