Future of Melbourne’s longest-running drive-in in doubt
The future of Melbourne’s largest and longest-running drive in is uncertain.
The Lunar Drive In Cinema in Dandenong is up for sale and its owners expect the site will likely be redeveloped.
“While we would welcome another cinema or drive in operator to come in and there has been some enquiries, they would face the same challenges we had that’s mostly brought us to this decision,” drive-in owner David Kilderry told Ross and Russel.
“We still cater to well over 400,000 customers a year so we would say we’re probably the equal busiest or busiest drive in in Australia, built we’re also in one of the most desirable locations … that brings very high land tax which is already well over $1000 a day.
“The costs are rising, the profits are thinning out.”
