Future of Melbourne’s only nude beach in doubt

There’s overwhelming support for Melbourne’s only nude beach, but the future of the beach is under threat.

In a community survey of almost 4000 people, more than 90 per cent of those surveyed supported keeping the beach as a clothing-optional zone.

But the council is expected to place greater emphasis on the views of 94 locals who it proactively targeted about Sunnyside North beach. Of those, 80 don’t want nudists nearby.

Michael James from the Keep Sunnyside Beach Clothing Optional action group says the beach is “seriously under threat”.

The Mornington Peninsula Council will debate the future of the beach next week.
