Game-changing drug gives new hope to women with deadly disease

Australian health authorities have approved a breakthrough drug which may prove a game changer for women with the most deadly of all women’s cancers.

The ovarian cancer drug, called Zejula, targets PARP proteins, which cancer cells use to repair themselves.

The new drug means women who have not responded to other treatments, such as chemotherapy and surgery, will now have another option in the advanced stages of the deadly disease.

CEO of Ovarian Cancer Australia, Jane Hill, says it can give people in advanced stages of the disease more time.

“Clinical trials have shown that by giving this treatment after initial chemotherapy treatment its got rid of as much of the cancer as possible, and it can help in keeping the cancer under control and delaying the time until further treatment may be needed,” she told Ross and Russel.
