GAME DAY: Greater Western Sydney v Western Bulldogs in Canberra | 3AW Radio

Sportsday

GWS forward Steve Johnson went in to bat for Toby Greene.

Greene was reported for a high hit on Caleb Daniel, but Johnson said he doesn’t think there was any malice in the incident.

‘I think he was trying to spoil the ball,’ Johnson said.

‘I didn’t think there was any intent to hit the player.’

Johnson said the Giants like the way Greene plays.

FULL TIME

GWS has won a heart-stopper by two points.

The Dogs spent a lot of time in attack, but couldn’t take full advantage of their chances.

3AW analyst Matthew Lloyd said the Dogs lacked a key forward.

‘Whether it be Travis Cloke to kick long to or Tory Dickson to pass inside 50, or (Stewart) Crameri to come up the ground,’ Lloydy said.

‘They had balls rushed through just because the had no one who was a real presence.’

HALF TIME

The Bulldogs lead by nine points at the main break.

Or, more accurately, nine behinds.

Most of the play has been in the Bulldogs’ attacking half, with the Giants forced to defend vigorously.

Marcus Bontempelli and Jake Stringer both kicked two goals in the second term, while Jeremy Cameron has three majors for the home side.

3AW analyst Matthew Lloyd said the Bulldogs have brought pressure to match the occasion.

‘They’ve suffocated them,’ Lloydy said.

‘The Giants are coming right up the ground to get a kick, and it’s playing into the hands of the half-backs.’

GWS CEO Dave Matthews spoke to 3AW before the game.

He gave an update on suspended midfielder Lachie Whitfield – and had a crack at North Melbourne, who are circling young gun Josh Kelly.

‘We’ve made it pretty clear about the Kangaroos that we’ve got zero interest in any of their players,’ he said.
