GAME DAY: Port Adelaide v Carlton at Adelaide Oval | 3AW Radio

Sportsday

Port Adelaide’s third quarter was simply unbelievable.

They scored 16 times, while keeping Carlton scoreless.

Had they kicked straighter than 6.10, their lead would have been truly monumental.

Quite staggeringly, Carlton had just one disposal in their attacking half for the whole quarter.

Other stats from the third quarter:

  • Disposals were 135 to 59
  • Inside 50s were 24 to 2
  • Contested possessions were 44 to 20
  • Incredibly, Port also had more tackles: 16 to 12

FULL TIME

Port Adelaide has belted the Blues to the tune of 90 points.

The Power led by 33 points at half time before breaking the game open with a scintillating third term.

Matthew Lloyd was critical of Brendon Bolton’s tactics on the night.

He said Carlton wasn’t positive enough, and their forwards couldn’t get into the game.

‘I saw Jacob Weitering just lose his confidence with every moment that went by because of the tactics that Brendon Bolton employed tonight,’ Lloydy said.

HALF TIME

Port Adelaide leads by 33 points after making a flying start to the match.

The Power booted the first five goals of the game before the Blues woke up.

Carlton had enough of the play in the second quarter, however their skills left a bit to be desired.

Mark Bickley said the Blues are doing enough right – until they reach their attacking arc.

‘They’ve just got to be more accurate when they have that last kick going inside 50,’ Bicks said.

‘They’ve got to move it a bit quicker, and they’ve got to put it to the advantage of their forwards.’

Port Chairman David Koch spoke to 3AW Football before the game.

He said the match versus the Suns will be televised on a main channel in China.

‘They’re saying to expect anywhere between 30 and 50 million people to see it,’ he said.

In a wide-ranging interview, Koch also said:

Port Adelaide has made a late change.

Hamish Hartlett has withdrawn with a quad injury, with Aidyn Johnson coming in for his debut.

Carlton is unchanged.

=====

Carlton coach Brendon Bolton told 3AW he’s got faith in his young forward line.

Bolton said it won’t click into gear overnight.

‘It’s about young fellows understanding the craft,’ he said.

‘We’ve got some good young forwards. They just need to play games to work it out.’
