GAME DAY: Western Bulldogs v Brisbane at Etihad Stadium | 3AW Radio

Sportsday

THE WASH-UP

Bulldog gun Marcus Bontempelli spoke to 3AW Football on Sunday.

He said the side has shown what it’s capable of in 2017, but needs to maintain that standard.

‘We’ve shown our best and our worst in most games in the early part of the season,’ Bontempelli said.

‘It’s about finding a four-quarter performance.’

Bontempelli also spoke about what it’s like to have Hollywood star wear the No.4 jumper in the AFL’s TV ad.

‘It’s not something I envisaged happening, but I’m not losing there!’ he said.

Bulldog veteran Matthew Boyd told 3AW he’s stoked to win for his long-time teammate Bob Murphy.

‘It’s so good to get a win for Bobby’s 300th,’ Boyd said.

‘I was just surprised that there weren’t more people in flannelette shirts at the ground!’

FULL TIME

The Bulldogs have celebrated Bob Murphy’s 300th game with a 32-point win.

Brisbane sprinted out of the blocks to lead by 32 points at half time, but the Bulldogs worked their way on top after the main break.

Jimmy Bartel said the Dogs’ defence was able to turn things around well.

‘The thing about a mature side is they can adapt pretty quickly within a game,’ he said.

‘Normally they play very proactively, up in front of the forwards.

‘They were getting beaten out the back and getting easy goals scored against them. They started playing from behind.’

HALF TIME

Brisbane stunned the home crowd with a seven-goal second term.

The Lions have smashed the inaccurate Dogs and lead by 32 points.

Brisbane has kicked 12.3, the Dogs have 5.13.

Jimmy Bartel praised the Lions’ decision-making under pressure.

‘They’ve known the right time to kick quick, the right time to use the ball by hand, and when to take the long option,’ he said.

Bulldogs assistant Rohan Smith paid tribute to Bob Murphy ahead of his milestone game.

Brisbane assistant coach Ben Hudson spoke to 3AW Football before the game.

He spoke about his former teammate Bob Murphy ahead of his 300th game.

‘Seeing him hold up the cup was a moment in sport that won’t be forgotten,’ Hudson said.

He said he didn’t think Murphy would reach the milestone after injuring his knee in his 295th game last year.

The Bulldogs have been effective without being overly impressive so far this year.

They sit seventh on the ladder (where have we heard that before?) after winning three of their first four.

It’s fair to say not many people give the Lions a chance today. They can play with the freedom of a team with no expectation on their shoulders whatsoever.

But do they have the talent to spoil Bob Murphy’s 300th game?

Find out with the No. 1 commentary team in the game on 3AW Football.
