Garbage collection conflict leaves residents stuck with rubbish

Garbage collection has stopped in two major municipalities as a recycling row escalates.

Wheelie Waste – which collects bins in the Macedon Ranges and Mount Alexander shires – has stopped services.

It’s unclear why, however, the councils are affected by a Visy decision to top exporting recyclables to China.

Environmental consultant David Rako told Neil Mitchell some councils refuse to pay a new fee – and hence the services have stopped.
