Garbage collectors and bus drivers “banned” from accepting Christmas gifts

Thinking of giving the garbage man or the bus driver a Christmas present to say thanks for what they’ve done for you this year?

You better think again!

3AW Drive has been alerted to several cases of public servants and volunteers being “banned” from accepting presents from those grateful from their services.

“How ridiculous,” Tom Elliott said.

Moreland City Council has confirmed it has a policy that discourages staff from accepting presents.

“It’s not just garbage collectors, but we actually guide all our office not to accept gifts,” Cr Oscar Yildiz told Tom Elliott.

“The public may feel like they could influence the level of service by giving a gift.”
