Garbage trucks are racking up huge damage bills throughout Melbourne’s streets

Article image for Garbage trucks are racking up huge damage bills throughout Melbourne’s streets

Rubbish trucks are increasingly hitting cars and even houses, causing millions of dollars’ worth of damage.

Trucks running into the back of parked cars, clipping side mirrors of luxury cars, smashing into brick fences and in some cases homes.

These are just some of the hundreds of incidents involving rubbish trucks reported across Melbourne councils during the past three years.

The population boom sees more cars battling for space, and narrow inner city streets are being blamed.

Port Phillip Council’s insurance paying out almost 50,000 from 39 incidents.

But, The Herald Sun’s investigation has found Brimbank topped the list 27 incidents and an insurance payout of almost $90,000.
