Gay couple threatened with legal action over rainbow flag on Port Melbourne balcony

Tom Elliott

A gay couple has been threatened with legal action if they don’t remove a rainbow flag from their balcony immediately.

James Bellia and Murray Sheldrick received a letter from their owners corporation last week, telling them to take it down.

According to the letter, the couple’s alleged breach of owners corporation rules was, ‘displaying advertising material on their balcony’.

It’s been there since February.

‘We don’t understand why?’ Mr Bellia told Neil Mitchell.

‘They said we’re not allowed to ‘advertise’ on our balcony.

‘How can it be advertising, for god’s sake, we’re not running a brothel.’
