Geelong’s Daniel Menzel opens up about ‘confronting’ documentary

Geelong livewire Daniel Menzel has opened up about a ‘confronting’ documentary on his road to recovery.

The luckless Cat’s journey following his fourth knee reconstruction will air on Fox Footy tonight.

Menzel said the film began when he was in a ‘bad place’.

‘It’s pretty confronting, the first part of it anyway,’ he told 3AW Football.

‘It’s after I’ve done my fourth knee and I guess I’m speaking when I’m in a pretty bad place.’

But Menzel, who booted four goals and gathered 20 touches in a sensational return last Friday, hoped the documentary would help those in a similar situation.

‘One of the reasons this sort of came about and why I really wanted to do it was because when you’re in long-term rehab, it’s such a lonely place,’ Menzel explained on 3AW.

‘If just one person watching this doco can take something out of it, that would be a great thing for me.’
